Ramada Jarvis picks top marketer

Ramada Jarvis hotels has appointed Hilton International’s vice-president of business development Rosemarie Shill as commercial director.

Shill, who takes over the role immediately, will oversee sales, marketing and distribution at the mid-market hotel group. She replaces Lawrence Alexander, who left the company last July to join easyHotel as chief executive.

The appointment comes as the company launches a development strategy with the aim of growing revenue and profit.

A spokesman for Ramada Jarvis says the group believes Shill will be instrumental in achieving its profit growth goal of 13% this year.

According to Mintel, the hotel group is the tenth largest in the UK by numbers of rooms, behind brands such as Intercontinental Hotel Group, Travelodge, Hilton, Thistle and Marriott.

In her role at Hilton, Shill held responsibility for the group’s UK sales and revenue functions. She has worked in the hospitality business for more than 25 years after starting her career at Swallow Hotels in 1984. She later joined Copthorne Hotels as worldwide sales director before moving to Stakis Hotels in 1996, where she handled a variety of roles including marketing.

The Ramada Jarvis group has stepped up its commitment to digital marketing by increasing its online marketing budget and increasing its Web activity (MW July 13).
