Asda launches online electricals store

Asda has launched an online electrical store in a bid to capture a 5% slice of the UK’s £1.9bn online electrical market, by 2012.

The grocer’s Asda Electricals website will sell products ranging from plasma-screen televisions to energy efficient fridge freezers via asda.com.

Gordon Hewlett, head of online general merchandise says the online electrical market is growing at a rate of 30% a year and adds: “Asda’s low price electricals are now available throughout the UK for the first time.”

Small domestic appliances can already be bought in Asda stores nationwide, while a wider range of electricals, from washing machines to MP3 players, can be found in the retailer’s larger Supercentres and Living stores.

Last week Asda started selling DVD players for £9.
