Vaughan secures future at Capital Radio

Johnny%20VaughanGCap Media has renewed Johnny Vaughan’s Capital Radio breakfast show contract, ending months of speculation about his future.

Vaughan, who has signed a new exclusive three-year deal, took over from long-time presenter Chris Tarrant in April 2004.

But in October, Jamie Theakston’s morning show for Chrysalis’ rival London station Heart overtook Vaughan to become the capital’s most listened-to commercial breakfast programme. It was the first time Capital Radio’s breakfast show had lost the number one spot in London.

GCap group operations director Steve Orchard says: "Throughout last year we made great improvements to the sound of 95.8 Capital Radio, making it more London-centric and playing more credible contemporary hit music. This year we are determined to bring those listeners who have gone to other stations back home."
