Domestic violence awareness campaign launches

Women’s Aid has launched a campaign featuring celebrities including Anna Friel and Jemma Kidd made up to show the physical effects of domestic violence.

The campaign, created by Grey London, urges people to "act until women and children are safe".

Friel, Kidd, Honor Blackman, Fiona Bruce, Kate Thornton, Fay Ripley, Fern Britton, Anne-Marie Duff and Miquita Oliver appear in the ads photographed by Rankin.

A Grey spokeswoman says: "We decided to tackle this problem by tapping into gossip culture. The amount of column inches and time spent talking about celebrities is phenomenal and if we could own even a small piece of this it would help to raise awareness of domestic violence and Women’s Aid."

She adds: "We wanted to create powerful images that would not only draw people’s attention, but get them talking about the subject as well. What is more striking than a raw portrait shot of a celebrity with the physical effect of domestic abuse: bruises, cuts, scars?"
