Reid asks for fresh ideas from pitching ad agencies

Reid Furniture, the Glasgow-based retailer, has asked Scottish ad agencies Curious Group and The Leith Agency to come back with new ideas for its advertising account.

Reid launched a pitch at the end of last year, and invited The Leith Agency, BDH/TBWA and a third unknown agency to take part. At the time, it was understood that Curious Group – the incumbent on the business – was not invited to take part.

Reid head of marketing Ann Gibb says none of the ideas that were presented to them hit the right note. She adds: "Two agencies have been told that we are not taking their ideas any further. Curious and The Leith Agency have been asked to come back with more ideas."

Gibb confirms that the marketing budget, which she says was £6m last year, will be increased to £8m in 2007.

In December, Reid signed Jane Seymour, former Bond girl and star of TV’s Dr Quinn: Medicine Woman, as the face of its advertising.

Ann Gibb says: "We approached Jane to become the new face of Reid because we’re certain that our customers will relate to her timeless appeal and classic elegance – she is the new ‘cool’."
