NEXTNext, the high street clothing retailer, is seeking a marketing director following the retirement of Sue Myatt after 17 years in the role.

It is understood the chain is looking for a direct replacement for Myatt, who was responsible for all marketing, including in-store work and promotions, across the 470-strong portfolio. She was also involved in store format design.

Myatt, who left earlier this month, was with the Leicester-based company for 25 years. She started off as a branch manager at Kendalls before moving to a company-wide display role when the rainwear stores were taken over by Next in 1982.

She held a variety of roles before being appointed as retail marketing director in 1990. Myatt will continue to work for the company one day a week for 12 months heading up its charity and community sponsorship activities.

The departure comes as the retailer faces tough competition on the high street. In May last year, Next ran its first advertising campaign in nine years. This was followed up by press and outdoor ads in November and a spring campaign that launched last week.
