Barclays is underlining its football credentials with a push urging fans to think about what the sport means to them. The high street bank is taking over Canary Wharf Tube station with an outdoor campaign supporting its "Finding Fan Gogh" art competition.
The advertising asks fans: "What does football mean to you?" and will cover more than 80 advertising sites in the station. Artwork from Terry Venables and John Motson and a self portrait of Aston Villa goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen feature in some of the sites.
The campaign launches on Thursday and will run until mid-April. It supports Finding Fan Gogh, a nationwide art competition launched with the Arts Council England in November.
Canary Wharf Tube station and shopping centre has been a mainstay of Barclays’ advertising since September 2005. Barclays booked all advertising space at the station for three months in a bid to irritate rivals, many of whose headquarters are based in Canary Wharf. It has proved so successful that the bank has since continued the deal.
