ABC figures reveal drop for Manchester Evening News

The Manchester Evening News, the third-highest selling regional evening paper, showed the biggest decline in regional evening papers according to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations figures.

The newspaper’s average circulation of paid-for copies between Monday and Saturday fell below 100,000, as the increase in the title’s cover price impacted on its paid circulation.

The Manchester Evening News sold an average of 94,018 copies, a fall of 26.8%, in the past six months of 2006.

Newquest’s Oxford Mail and Northcliffe’s Scunthorpe Telegraph were the only evening regional papers to raise their circulation levels, according to the figures.

The West Midland’s Express & Star kept its status as the biggest selling regional newspaper, with circulation of 142,433, with a year on year fall of 5.4%.
