The Diary spotted an article in The Telegraph last week about "India’s Sir Richard Branson" Vijay Mallya, chairman of United Breweries Group and business mogul, settling a price to buy British spirits company Whyte & Mackay to become part of his United Breweries Group.

The accompanying picture (right) of Mallya bore more than a passing resemblance to the Chancellor.

A few hearty meals and a fake beard may be enough to pull the wool over the business world’s eyes, but watch out Brown, the Diary’s on to you.
