Former Waitrose marketer Mark Price (pictured) has been appointed as managing director of partnership development at John Lewis. He will take up his new role from March 26.

In addition to his role as John Lewis development director, Price will now take on responsibility for crisis management and will stand in for Charlie Mayfield, the retailer’s incoming chairman, who also takes up his role on March 26, when he is away.

Price joined the John Lewis Partnership in 1982 as a graduate trainee. He was appointed as marketing director of Waitrose in 1998 and later became director of selling and marketing. He took over the role of development director in January last year when he was appointed to the partnership board.

Chairman designate Mayfield says: “Mark’s long partnership experience equips him well to carry out these extended responsibilities and to work with me alongside the senior tam to prove a strong and coherent leadership for the partnership’s commercial direction.”

The company has also appointed David Barclay as non-executive deputy chairman and chairman of the remuneration committee. He became a non-executive director of the company last August.
