M&C Saatchi is looking to buy a digital agency to boost its online capabilities. The news comes as the agency announces a 4.2% rise in pre-tax profits for last year.

Group chief executive David Kershaw (pictured) says M&C is “not adverse” to making acquisitions in both the UK and Australia in three areas – digital, PR and brand strategy and consultancy.

He adds: “In the UK we are looking at businesses in the digital space because that’s where the growth is.”

New business wins including Direct Line helped M&C increase profits to £7.8m in 2006. The agency lost its biggest client, BA, at the end of 2005.
