Sony has been warned by a leading analyst to keep “outspoken” executives under control or risk damaging its brand. The warning comes as the electronics giant launches its long-awaited PlayStation 3 (PS3) in Europe.

Ovum senior analyst Carl Gressum says: “Sony has gone from being the king of consoles to facing stiff competition in a market where for the time being it has been sidetracked.

“It needs to learn from Apple on corporate communications, and how to work with the press and media. Sony has too many outspoken executives and too little control of what they say and do. This is a challenge for the management of Sony Corporate.”

The PS3 went on sale at midnight after a series of delays. Sony trails Microsoft and Nintendo in sales of next-generation consoles.
