Kelvin MacKenzie is stepping down as non-executive chairman of Media Square, the marketing and communications services group, to devote more time to his “media commitments”. He joined the company’s board in early 2006. Nigel Bacon, a senior independent non-executive director with the company for the past three years, will take over from MacKenzie on an interim basis and will help to find a permanent replacement. Bacon is also a finance director at Pertemps Group, a recruitment company, and has previously worked at Ernst & Young. MacKenzie, a former editor of The Sun newspaper, has held a variety of positions in the media industry over recent years. In 2005, he joined the board of struggling magazine publisher Highbury House after investing £1.5m of his own money into the company. He left his role as executive chairman in December of the same year after it was forced to put its portfolio up for sale. MacKenzie is also the former chairman and chief executive of The Wireless Group, the then owner of TalkSport. The radio group has since been sold to Ulster TV.
