Motorola hands global role to Jeremy Dale after rejig

Jeremy%20DaleMotorola has promoted Jeremy Dale to its top global marketing role for its handset division. The former Orange marketer replaces Leslie Dance as vice-president of marketing for mobile devices.

Sources are linking Dale’s promotion with the departure of Motorola’s European marketing director for its handset division, Simon Thompson, who is joining Lastminute.

com as chief marketing officer. Thompson has been reporting to Dale since his promotion, although a Motorola spokeswoman denies this was a factor in Thompson’s decision to leave.

Dale, who was UK marketing director at Orange until 2004, joined Motorola two years ago in a senior global marketing role. He was vice-president for Motorola’s retail and channel marketing until he was promoted to vice-president of marketing for mobile devices. He replaces Dance, who has left the company, although it is not known if she has a job to go to.

Dale will report to Motorola chief marketing officer Kenneth Keller in his new role. Former Heinz marketer Keller was appointed as executive vice-president and chief marketing officer in October last year to succeed the late Geoffrey Frost, who died unexpectedly in November 2005. It emerged earlier this month that Thompson was leaving Motorola after just a year to take the top marketing job at Lastminute.com.
