EMAP Consumer Media (ECM) has appointed Johnathan Turpin (pictured) to the new role of digital development director for radio. He joins from AOL Europe where he was head of portal implementation.

Turpin will work alongside Dee Ford, managing director of EMAP Radio, and Travis Baxter, managing director of the Big City Network, to develop the group’s digital strategy.

His role is one of three new posts created in ECM division, which includes radio, specialist and lifestyle, which have been created to strengthen the group’s multimedia offering. It is still recruiting for the two other digital development roles. The three roles will report to Dharmash Mistry, who is managing director of ECM and EMAP Performance, but they will work closely their respective teams. They will be charged with stretching existing brands across different platforms as well as finding and developing new ideas across digital for EMAP to invest in.

Turpin is also a former chief executive of classified advertising site, Fish4, and has also worked at the BBC.
