Thelondonpaper wins Canary Wharf rights

Thelondonpaper, the News International-owned afternoon freesheet, has triumphed over Associated Newspapers by winning exclusive rights to distribute at Canary Wharf.

The win for News International, which is effective immediately, will mean that Associated will have to stop distribution of London Lite in the area.

It is the second time that News International has won a distribution deal over its rival. News International previously won a seven-year contract to distribute its newspapers at Network Rail stations.

Ian Clark, general manager at thelondonpaper, says: “The potential readers at Canary Wharf are an advertiser’s dream. They are young, upmarket and with a high disposable income.”

It is understood that thelondonpaper will transfer distribution from other areas of the capital that are underperforming.

Around 90,000 people are employed in the Canary Wharf area and 650,000 people shop there each week.
