Vodafone signs up as UEFA Cup sponsor

UEFA Champions League sponsor Vodafone has signed a three-year deal to become the technology sponsor of its sister competition the UEFA Cup. The mobile giant will also sponsor the UEFA Super Cup as part of the deal.

Vodafone ended its £9m-a-year shirt sponsorship deal with Manchester United at the end of 2005 to become an official partner of the Champions League and the company has extended its relationship with UEFA, European football’s governing body, by signing up as the technology partner of the UEFA Cup for three years and the Super Cup for two.

As part of a new centralised sponsorship structure for the UEFA Cup, Carlsberg becomes the presenting sponsor and Toyota, Intersport, Canon and Banco Santander the official sponsors.

Vodafone’s director of brand and customer experience David Wheldon says Vodafone is already one of the most recognised sponsors of the Champions League. He adds: “This new partnership allows us to expand our successful association with European football and consolidate our position as a leading brand involved in the game.”
