The7stars has won the £1m media planning and buying account for Domino Records, the independent record label behind Franz Ferdinand and the Arctic Monkeys.

It is understood that the agency won a pitch against incumbent agency DPM and one other undisclosed agency.

The7Stars has already taken over the business and is working on the launch campaign for the Arctic Monkey’s second album, Favourite Worst Nightmare.

The appointment builds the agency’s presence in the music market. It won the £1.5m media planning and buying account for EMI-owned label Mute Records last September. It handles all TV, outdoor and radio for the label’s roster of bands, which includes indie band Art Brut and Eighties alternative rock band Depeche Mode. It won the business from Mediamix.

It also pitched against Starcom, MindShare and incumbents Carat and Media Campaign for the consolidated £32m EMI account. Starcom won the business at the start of this year.

Domino Records launched in the UK in 1993, but also has a US office, based in Brooklyn. Many of its early releases were from US artists or alternative UK artists, but signings such as Franz Ferdinand have built its profile. It also has a subsidiary label, Geographic Music, which is home to world music and alternative British bands.

Domino, which celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2003, is thought to be the longest-running independent label in the UK .
