Indy circulation plummets

The Independent and its sister title The Independent on Sunday were among the worst performers in a dismal March for all newspapers, according to the latest Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) figures.

The Independent’s circulation fell from 264,217 to 252,714 between February and March, a drop of 4.34% and the biggest faller across all of the daily paid-for newspapers.

The Independent on Sunday was also the worse performer across the Sunday titles, with a month-on-month circulation decline of 4.74% from 239,585 to 228,234.

The Financial Times was the strongest performer reporting a leap in circulation of 3.53%, from 445,275 to 461,033.

The London Evening Standard saw its year-on-year circulation plummet by over 13%, as it felt the impact of London’s freesheets.

The Sunday Express and The People were also among the biggest fallers over the year. The People’s circulation fell 13.77% while The Sunday Express fell by 9.04%.
