Ex-Ofcom man to advise on City AM

David Connolly, the former Ofcom independent adjudicator for the Contract Rights Renewal (CRR) remedy, is working with business free-sheet City AM in an advisory role.

Connolly, who left the media regulator last September, is working as a consultant for City AM in a ten-week contract. He has been tasked with reviewing its operations from a commercial perspective following the free London-based paper reaching 18 months old.

The former CRR troubleshooter is believed to have a number of other consultancy work on the horizon and has taken on several low profile projects since leaving the regulator. He was contractually prevented from working on broadcast business until last month.

Connolly announced his intention to leave Ofcom after three years in December 2005. He was replaced as independent adjudicator by former Initiative commercial director Robert Ditcham.

Previously, Connolly has worked at Starcom and Leo Burnett and it has been mooted that he will return to the agency side following a period of consultancy work. However, sources close to Connolly say he favours a move to a media owner or a return to his native Scotland. He is believed to be looking for a more permanent role.
