Mirror Group reorganises marketing at Irish division

Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) has undergone a reshuffle of its Irish marketing division and appointed a new general manager following the departure of commercial director Mark Mahaffy to EMAP earlier this year.

Joanne McGreevy is the Irish division’s new general manager, promoted from her previous role of managing circulation and editorial cost management.

McGreevy will oversee all marketing and advertising activity and her appointment is part of a wider restructure of MGN’s Ireland marketing division.

Joanne Friel has been promoted to marketing and promotions manager from her previous role as promotions manager. Friel will be tasked with developing the overall marketing and promotional strategy for the Mirror group business in Ireland.

She will work with Mark Whyte who has been promoted from marketing and sponsorship executive to marketing services manager.

Whyte will be responsible for managing the below-the-line marketing strategy and the creative communications and branding strategies.

Further changes include the promotion of agency manager Jonathon Eakin to advertising manager. Eakin will head the advertising department in Belfast while Michael Savage, advertising controller in Republic of Ireland, will head the department in Belfast.

The changes follow Mahaffy’s decision to join EMAP’s Northern Ireland division in March this year.

McGreevy’s role will in effect take on Mahaffy’s duties along with her circulation and cost management roles.

McGreevy has about 18 years experience in the newspaper industry – 15 of them with the Mirror Group. Following a stint as sales representative, she was promoted to circulation director in 2001.
