Magic 105.4 number one in London

Magic 105.4, the EMAP-owned station, has regained the coveted number one spot in the London radio market as Chrysalis-owned Heart slipped into second place losing reach and share in the latest radio audience figures.
The Rajar figures for the first quarter of 2007 show that Magic gained just 14,000 listeners over the period but Heart shed 155,000 listeners and its share fell sharply from 7.1% to 5.4%. Magic’s share rose from 5.5% to 5.9%.
The Heart breakfast show, presented by Jamie Theakston, has also lost the number one spot that it gained last quarter to Johnny Vaughan on GCap Media-owned Capital 95.8. Vaughan’s show added 41,000 from the previous quarter while Theakston lost 123,000 listeners from the previous quarter.
Capital increased its reach to 1.62 million up from 1.46 million last year but down from 1.72 million on the same quarter last year.
Meanwhile, the BBC Radio 1 saw its breakfast show, presented by Chris Moyles, grow its audience to 7.04 million, an increase of 744,000 listeners on the last quarter and its biggest audience to date. It came as the BBC reported a 56% share of all radio listening and a weekly reach of 33.46 million listeners, which has increased by 1 million on the same quarter last year.
