GCap commercial director George resigns

GCap Media commercial director Duncan George has resigned from the company after nearly two years in the role. It is not clear if he has a job to go to after he leaves the radio group on June 8.

The announcement comes just weeks after the arrival of former Virgin Radio chief executive Fru Hazlitt, who has joined the group as managing director of Capital Radio. She has been given responsibility for Capital Radio and Choice FM as well as the group’s national commercial sales and online operations. GCap has always denied that her appointment would affect George’s role.

GCap Media chief executive Ralph Bernard says that George, who was previously managing director of GWR-owned sales house Opus, has been “instrumental” in merging the GWR and Capital Radio sales teams. He has been responsible for driving national revenues and develop its digital revenue with the creation of a dedicated Interactive division.

George is a former sales director of Capital Radio but left the group in 1997 to join GWR, where he set up Opus. His departure from Capital followed Hazlitt’s appointment as head of Capital-owned sales house, Capital Sales and Marketing.
