Thorntons appoints marketing chief

thorntonsThorntons, the confectionery retailer, has appointed former Tesco marketer Peter Wright as marketing director. He will take over the board-level position later this summer.

Wright will take over the role from Philip Douty, who left the company last November. Thorntons’ chief executive Mike Davies has been overseeing the marketing on an interim basis.

Wright joins the high street retailer from Tesco, where he has held a number of senior marketing positions including UK director of brand marketing and UK director of stores and non-food marketing.

He started his career as a graduate trainee at drinks giant Diageo and he held roles in the UK and aboard before being appointed to the role of global marketing director of Gordon’s Gin. He left the company after 11 years to join Tesco.
