DSGi acts to replace chief exec

DSG International, the electrical retailing group, has appointed John Browett as chief executive to replace John Clare, who is retiring in September. Browett will join from Tesco, where he is operations development director.

Browett is also a former chief executive of Tesco.com and helped grow the business into one of the country’s biggest online grocers. Tesco chairman Sir John Collins says Browett brings a wealth of retailing experience to the group.

Clare is one of the retail industry’s longest serving chief executives having run DSGi for 13 years. But the group, which includes PC World, Currys.digital and Dixons.co.uk, has struggled in the face of fierce opposition from competitors both on the high street and online.

DSGi is understood to be reviewing its corporate strategy following last week’s announcement that Clare is stepping down (MW this week).
