Fujitsu Siemens Computers spearheads energy conservation initiative

Fujitsu Siemens Computers is offering to donate 10,000 to the Climate Group for each client that does not cut costs by 40% as part of an energy conservation drive.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers is offering to donate £10,000 to the Climate Group for each client that does not cut costs by 40% as part of an energy conservation drive.

The move is part of the company’s Dynamic Data Centre (DDC) Challenge. The strategy includes FSC approaching 350 FTSE companies in the UK to cut their power consumption and by doing so reducing costs – a particularly attractive proposition for most boardrooms.

FSC will conduct a free study to demonstrate how companies can reduce the cost of data centre operations significantly. The company says it is so confident it can achieve savings that it has promised to donate £10,000 to The Climate Group, on behalf of any company where it fails to demonstrate this level of saving.

The technology provider will run a series of print ads in business titles to attract the attention of board-level decision-makers to generate awareness about the benefits of assessing data centre energy consumption.

FSC managing director Steve Kendall-Smith says: “We have taken this step of issuing a challenge to UK corporates because we need the country’s decision-makers to sit up and take note that they have power-hungry data centres based on sprawling server farms that are costing them millions of pounds to manage.

“The average UK data centre is said to have the equivalent carbon footprint to the city of Leicester, however we believe many businesses simply don’t know how to go about reducing this huge consumption of power.”
