Who said alcohol and sport can’t mix? Not Meteorite

meteoriteOK, so even the most creative of people need a break every now and then. This much was evident at direct agency Meteorite’s annual “Gin and Rounders” game last week. Yes, you guessed it, the staff spent the day quaffing mother’s ruin (and the odd bottle of Magners) and playing the game that used to be the highlight of summer PE lessons when the Diary was a nipper.

But this was no mess-around game: The two captains, managing director Debbie Smith and chairman Hugh Bishop, fired up their teams with threats of firings and reduced holiday allowance. As well as that there was the added humiliation for anyone caught out of having to don a red tutu. But that only happened to four people.

The game became suitably violent but, apart from senior art director Chris’ sprained wrist, most participants escaped with just minor scrapes and bruises.

In the end it was Debbie’s “T-Unit” team that walked away triumphant with the golden rounders ball. A fact that invoked an award-winning reaction from Hugh – the “Sore Loser” award that is. But considering the day had been dubbed “Smack Hugh’s Balls”, he appeared to get off quite lightly.
