Comet campaign to mark computer support launch

Comet, the electrical retailer, will next week launch a home and in-store computer support service aimed at homes and small businesses.

Comet On Call will offer customers technical help at home, over the phone, or by dropping equipment off at one of the retailer’s 250 stores.

The concept was trialed in the Midlands last year under the name IT Therapy. Along with home support, Comet set up in-store service labs at three Birmingham outlets.

The Hertfordshire-based retailer has now revamped the service by including helpline support and replacing the service-labs – due to inadequate space in most stores – with “drop and collect” points.

A spokeswoman says the retailer overhauled the service to clearly brand it as a Comet service offering. It will be promoted with a press and in-store campaign.

On Call will provide five services – computer and wireless network set-up and computer health, security and data and computer upgrade, repair and advice services as well as a helpline.

The latter will also operate seven days a week with technicians providing telephone support. They will also have the ability to access customers computer systems remotely.

The service is open to any computer owner, not just consumers that have purchased equipment from Comet.
