SeagerScottish & Newcastle UK marketing director Tim Seager is set to be promoted to managing director of the brewery group, amid rumours of a takeover of the business.

Seager will succeed John Dunsmore, who has been appointed managing director of the newly created Western Europe division within S&N, as part of a company restructure (MW May 24).

S&N confirms that Seager has been appointed as acting managing director, “to free Dunsmore to make an immediate contribution to the wider Western Europe business.”

Seager, a former Procter & Gamble marketer, joined S&N at the beginning of 2004 and has since overseen the UK’s marketing strategy and new product development programme. He is credited with the launch of Foster’s Twist, a citrus variant of its flagship Foster’s brand and Foster’s Quench, a lower alcohol-by-volume (ABV) lager.

A former professional game hunter in the Central African Republic, Seager began his marketing career in 1988 as a P&G detergents marketing manager. He subsequently rose to marketing director of Pampers, Europe in the late 1990s, and was the marketing director of paper, feminine care and health at P&G France from 1998 to 2003, when he left to join S&N.

S&N drinks brands include Strongbow, Foster’s, Bulmer’s, Kronenbourg 1664, San Miguel and John Smith’s.

Meanwhile, S&N Pub Enterprises, the pub business and Waverly TBS, the on-trade wholesale business, will continue to report to Dunsmore.
