Virgin Radio raids C4 for director of new media

Virgin Radio has appointed Andy Grumbridge, managing director of digital content at Channel 4, as director of digital media. He replaces James Cridland, who has left the radio station to join the BBC.

Grumbridge, who will take over the role in August, will focus on growing the station’s online presence and looking at ways to monetise it. He will also lead the 13-strong in-house digital team.

Virgin chief executive Paul Jackson says: “Andy has a proven track record in this field and is well placed to continue to our strong pedigree in this key are of our business.”

Virgin was the first radio station to launch on to the internet in 1996 and now claims to the most listened to station on the Web.
