Childhood memories take over Diary’s office with the surprise delivery of crayons and Play-Doh

 Work came to an abrupt halt in Diary Towers with the arrival of a very special invitation from Brand Sense Agency. Not only was there an invite to a breakfast seminar about sensory branding taking place next Wednesday at Anthony Gormley’s Blind Light exhibition in the Hayward Gallery on London’s South Bank, there was also a pack of Crayola Jumbo Crayons and a pot of Play-Doh!

Simon Harrop, the agency’s host for the seminar, explains that mere paper or e-mail invitations are often lost in the swamp of paper scraps and images of cats in clothes that overwhelm the average office worker’s desk and inbox.

His choice of crayons and Play-Doh was not just to mark his invitations out as different, but to inspire those lucky enough to receive them to return to the sensory experiences they may not have felt since childhood. Remember that distinctive Crayola smell? How about the feeling of kneading Play-Doh, or getting it suck under your nails?

Well the Diary remembers them and the office is now covered in bright, childlike doodles and barely recognisable “sculptures” of colleagues. In fact, it is so much fun regressing that the Diary probably won’t even get to finish this sen…
