Sky and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have teamed up to launch Europe’s first PlayStationPortable (PSP) video download. The move means consumers in the UK and Ireland will be able to watch videos on demand in any location via their PSP.

The service will be introduced early next year and offer a range of Sky content including sport, entertainment, films and music. Content will be available on a subscription basis.
Sky aims to extend the service by working with third-party content providers.

Customers will be able to download programmes directly to their PSP using a Wi-Wi connection or transfer programmes downloaded to their PC.

The announcement follows strong financial results from Sky, which showed a 10% increase in revenues to £4.55bn in the 12 months ending June 30. Its underlying operating profits were £958m with an annual growth of 6%.

The company also recruited 1.4 million customers over the year.
