The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has cleared Quaker Oats of making misleading claims about the health benefits of oats. The investigation followed a complaint from a consumer over whether oats can lower cholesterol.
The ASA has ruled that there is sufficient evidence from scientific research undertaken in the UK, US and Sweden to prove that the oats can remove cholesterol from the body.
Mary Barnard, chief executive of Quaker, PepsiCo UK says: “We’re delighted to see that the ASA has ruled in our favour. The ruling once again highlights the benefits of eating Quaker Oats.”
Quaker Oats were investigated specifically under CAP (Broadcast) TV Advertising Standards Code rules 5.1 (misleading advertising) and 8.3.1 (accuracy in food advertising) but were found to have breached neither of the rules.
