AMV wins climate change pitch

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Department for Transport have appointed Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO to their climate change advertising brief following a consolidation pitch.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Department for Transport (DfT) have appointed Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO to their climate change advertising brief following a consolidation pitch.

The pitch, between the two incumbents AMV and Leo Burnett, was handled by COI. AMV is now working on the Government’s “Act on CO2” campaign.

The move will also lead to a consolidation of its media planning and buying account currently split between PHD and Mindshare. The two departments say that a decision is expected shortly.

David Watson, head of marketing at Defra, says: “Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing us today. This is an exciting opportunity to bring a truly joined-up approach to government communications in this area.”

Helen Clark, deputy head of transport publicity at DfT, says: “The DfT and Defra are already working closely together on policies to tackle climate change – so it makes sense to do the same on communications.”
