Mail newspapers debut at number two in online papers audit

The Daily Mail and The Mail On Sunday have become the second most read online newspapers with nearly 12 million users. The paper, making its online audit debut, beat The Sun Online, The Times Online and The Telegraph to take the second spot behind Guardian Unlimited.

The figures, published today (August 23) show that the two Daily Mail sites recorded 11,865,039 during July. Timesonline.co.uk, which includes the sites for the daily and Sunday paper, reported a 9.21% increase in users on the previous month to 10,536,979 and The Sun’s portfolio of sites, including thesun.co.uk and Page3.com, saw a 4.59% increase to 9,435,509.

The strong performance from the Mail sites has pushed telegraph.co.uk, which also includes the daily and Sunday papers, into fifth place despite a 275% increase in users to 8.9 million. It attributed the sharp increase in users to an intensified search optimisation programme and improved content.
