MyTravel marketing chief joins list of departures from merged group

MyTravel%20planeMyTravel group marketing director Tim Marsden is leaving the company without a job to go to just months after its merger with Thomas Cook. It follows a major restructure of the two companies’ marketing teams.

Marsden was the last senior MyTravel marketer at the company and his departure sees all of the main roles filled by Thomas Cook staff.

Thomas Cook marketing director Simon Carter was promoted to the board-level role of executive director of marketing at the enlarged company in June.

His team includes head of channel marketing Jonathan Smith and head of brand marketing for specialist brands Darren Stott. The latter positions will focus mainly on cruises but will also include direct sell holidays.

Thomas Cook chief executive Manny Fontenla-Novoa has taken on the same role in the merged group. Although MyTravel chief executive Peter McHugh will remain as joint chief executive to oversee the merger, he is expected to leave at the end of the year.

Marsden joined MyTravel in 2002 as marketing director for its retail business, Going Places, from Norweb Energi. He replaced David Chambers following a shake-up at the marketing department.
