Summer family blockbusters boost British cinema attendence

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Shrek 3 and The Simpsons Movie provided a major boost for British cinema last month as admissions for hit an all-time high of 21.8 million

The Cinema Advertising Association (CAA) says July saw the highest number of monthly cinema admissions since records began in 1965. The previous record was 19 million in February 2002 when Monsters Inc and Ocean’s 11 were showing at the box office.

The CAA says the record follows a significant uplift in total admission figures, which increased 11.3% this year from January to July to 98.7 million.

The top cinema advertisers for July 2007 were ebay which spent £1.31m followed by Redbull (£1.27m) and Ford (£1.26m).
