Vexed to build a community website for cancer centres

Vexed Digital has been appointed as the lead digital agency for cancer care group Maggie’s Centres. It won the business after a nine-way pitch against undisclosed agencies.

Maggie’s Centres, which offers help to people with cancer, wants to create a website that will take on the role of an online centre. Vexed has been briefed to build an online community that will reflect Maggie’s offer.

The agency, which specialises in Web 2.0 products and services, is developing an integrated platform that will focus on three key areas – care, fundraising and information.

The care section will encourage users to build their own online profiles, blogs and galleries, and to use forums, groups and Q&As to meet other users and share information.

The fundraising part of the website will include information about events organised by Maggie’s, but also by individuals that use the site. It will help them to publicise events and manage fundraising.

Visitors to the site will also be able to contribute via a single donation or direct debit, and a “donation widget” will be created for other key destinations.

It will also provide users with background information about Maggie’s Centres, as well as using social networking sites, mobiles and kiosks to raise awareness of the group and its work.

The group also works with Albion, which handles its advertising and oversaw the digital pitch.
