3 continues marketing restructure

Third-generation mobile phone operator 3 has promoted director of handsets Fergal Walker to the new role of director of product management as part of an ongoing restructure of its marketing department.

Walker, who joined 3 UK from the company’s global marketing team earlier this year, will now head both the handsets and services teams. He will continue to report to marketing director John Penberthy-Smith in his new role.

3 had been looking for a director of product management to work alongside Walker but Penberthy-Smith has decided to combine the roles. He says: “Fergal has done an exemplary job since joining 3 UK and has dramatically improved our focus on handsets. I am delighted he has agreed to extend his leadership to our products.”

Penberthy-Smith appointed former BT and Volkswagen marketer Alan Doyle as integrated communications director in June and brought in Stephen Ford as director of customer propositions from 3 Australia at the same time as Walker. Penberthy-Smith is still looking for a director of base management to complete his new team.
