Japanese car manufacturer Toyota and energy provider Electricité de France are set to announce a partnership to launch recharging points for plug-in hybrid electric cars.

The proposed network will be rolled out over the next few years and will mark a major advance for environmentally friendly cars. London is among the few cities in the world where recharging points for electrical cars currently exist.

The Toyota-EDF deal is expected to cover France initially, with a view to be rolled out to other markets.

Earlier this year, Toyota announced the development of an environmentally friendly plug-in car and is the fist carmaker to see an electrical car certified for use on Japanese roads.
