Magnet, the kitchen outfitting company, has handed its £7m media planning and buying account to MediaVest Manchester after a two-way pitch against Universal McCann, the incumbent for 18 years.

The company kicked off the review last month, by holding a four-way pitch that also included PHD and MediaCom. CheethamBell JWT handles the magnet advertising account.

The appointment of MediaVest comes just seven months after the departure of marketing director Nick Booth. He was replaced by Anjum Ahmed who was previously responsible for design at the company.

Ahmed says: “In the past few years we have taken a strategic change of direction and moved both the advertising and PR accounts, which has seen some excellent success. We felt the time was right to also investigate alternative media strategies.”
