Nintendo has appointed outgoing Yahoo! chief marketing officer Cammie Dunaway as executive vice-president of sales and marketing for America. She takes up her role on November 5 and fills a post that has been vacant since May last year, when Reggie Fils-Aime was promoted to president and chief operating officer at Nintendo of America.
Dunaway is tasked with further broadening the appeal of the games brand beyond the traditional core games market. She says her experience at Yahoo! will help make gaming “relevant whether you’re five or 95”.
Dunaway has over 20 years’ marketing experience and before Yahoo! worked at packaged goods giant Frito-Lay.
In a separate move Nintendo announced that pre-tax, first-half profits were up 130% to 215bn yen (£920m). Sales more than doubled to 695bn yen (£2.95bn), prompting the company to boost its full-year sales forecasts from 16.5 million to 17.5 million units.
Nintendo has sold 13.2 million Wiis since launching last November and the company has warned increased take-up could affect supply.
