Alton Towers takes on marketing head

Alton Towers has appointed Morwenna Angove as its head of marketing. She takes up her position this week and will report to park general manager Russell Barnes.

Angove joins the theme park from Manchester City Council where she was head of strategic marketing. Her appointment is part of an overall strategy to position the entertainment park and its two hotels as the “UK’s leading short-stay destination”. In the new role, Angove will be responsible for imp-lementing a short-term tactical campaign to increase visitor numbers and for developing a longer-term strategy to increase numbers outside of peak seasons.

The theme park’s previous marketing chief, Tracey Blithe, who was head of brand strategy, left the company in August 2006.

Angove will be responsible for a team of 20, including head of consumer marketing Rebecca Farrer, head of revenue and sales Katherine Duckworth and head of trade sales Dominique Sidley.

Alton Towers is part of the Tussauds Group, which was recently sold to the Merlin Entertainment Group.
