Motorola to expand EMEA marketing team

motorola-razrMotorola is looking to expand its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) marketing team following the appointment of Andrew Morley as vice-president of marketing for the region in July.

Morley, a former BSkyB and Harrods marketer, replaced European marketing director Simon Thompson, who stepped down to join Lastminute.com in March.

Motorola has a UK marketing department, which is lead by James King, and a central marketing team that looks after EMEA, also based in the UK. Morley says he wants to “bolster” the EMEA unit.

Motorola has slipped to third place in terms of market share behind Samsung in the global handset market, after failing to replicate the success of the Razr. However, it has just launched two ad campaigns to promote the Razr 2 – the first major marketing activity for which Morley has been responsible.

The company is also in the final stages of a review of its pan-European advertising account. Reports suggest it has reappointed Ogilvy Advertising as its global lead agency after a spell with Omnicom (BBDO). Motorola also works with Mother, which is handling a global music project for the brand.

Prior to joining Motorola, Morley was marketing director at Harrods (MW May 3) and has also worked at Bulldog (Cable & Wireless) and BSkyB, where he rose to sales and marketing director.
