AOL appoints former GCap commercial chief as sales director

AOL UK has appointed former GCap Media commercial director Duncan George as sales director. He will take over the role on December 3.

George, who left the radio group this summer, will lead the UK sales operation and be responsible for building the internet company’s sales capability in line with its ad supported web strategy.

The company says George’s appointment will “further support AOL’s focus on building one of Europe’s largest and most sophisitcated advertising networks”. Miachael Steckler, AOL UK managing director, says: “His high energy and media experience will enable us to build on out current success as well as to grow out share of the UK online advertising marketing.”

Geroge started his career in press on the IPC-owned New Musical Express band also worked for the Evening Standard and Racing Post. He then moved into radio working at Capital Radio and GWR Group, launching its nations sales organision, Opus. He became commercial director of GCap Media following the merger of GWR and Capital Radio two years ago.
