Woolworths is “Simpsonising” Woolie and Worth in new campaign to support the release of The Simpsons Movie on DVD. It is the first time the animators of the cartoon have worked with a retailer.

The team, led by legendary animator Matt Groening, has created a cartoon of the Woolworth’s characters sitting on The Simpsons’ sofa, which will be used in ads that will run across TV, online, press and in-store. It breaks on Monday (December 10) to coincide with the launch of the DVD.

Alan Hunt, DVD and CD trading manager for Woolworths, says: “The move will be a massive seller with over 1 million people expected to snap up the DVD version in the first week alone. The fact that The Simpsons animators have agreed to draw for us is quite something and it has made our ads really stands out.”

Woolworths is also changing its stores for the release of the film by replacing the two Os in it signage with Simpsons-style doughnuts. It will also “Simpsonise” five stores by replacing its red frontage with “Simpsons yellow” and will have lifesize version of Bart and Homer in the window.
