Snoop Dogg joins ranks of Orange Gold Spot stars

Orange has signed rapper Snoop Dogg and actors Rob Lowe, Dennis Hopper and Anjelica Huston to appear in its Gold Spot cinema ads next year.

The four will feature in separate executions over the course of next year alongside Gold Spot regulars Mr Dresden and his sidekick Elliot.

Gold Spot – the ad that airs immediately before a film – is the most coveted advertising slot in cinema. Orange has held the exclusive rights to the slot since 2000 and Gold Spot has been running in its current form since 2003.

This year’s Gold Spot ads have featured actors Michael Madsen (MW February 1), Mena Suvari (MW May 3), Val Kilmer (MW August 2) and Macaulay Culkin (MW November 1). Other former stars include Patrick Swayze and Steven Seagal.

Orange’s Gold Spot ads are created by Mother, which retained the business in September last year following a pitch against Fallon, which now handles Orange’s pan-European advertising account.

The mobile company signed a £50m deal to retain the rights to Gold Spot in October last year (MW October 26, 2006).

Orange has a history of involvement in films that includes sponsorship of Bafta and Orange Wednesdays, which offers customers discounts at selected cinemas every Wednesday.
