Greetz card company on the hunt for digital agency

Greetz, an online greeting card service that sends real cards through the post, is talking to digital agencies ahead of a £2m UK launch next year.

Greetz UK country manager, Gavin Stirrat, says that he is talking to i-Level, Agency Republic and Media Contracts on a “relatively informal” basis.

Greetz is operating a pilot scheme and plans to carry out a usability study to ensure the service operates efficiently in the UK. This will be followed by a brand awareness and direct response campaign for the full launch. Stirrat was appointed to oversee the UK launch earlier this month. He previously spent seven years at Advertising.com, latterly as vice-president of strategic solutions.

Greetz launched in the Netherlands in 2003. It is the first European online greeting card operation that sends real cards. The service expanded throughout the Netherlands and Belgium in 2006 and is set to extend throughout Europe at the beginning of 2008.

Greetz works with strategic content and distribution partners such as TMS and Royal Mail. The company already offers a one-day delivery service from the UK to Holland and Belgium. Stirrat says the company aims to extend this service worldwide by forming partnerships with national postal companies.

According to the Greeting Card Association, the UK card market is one of the most successful in the world with over 2.87 billion cards sold at retail in 2006, worth an estimated £1.3bn.
