Bebo has been named as the best social networking website in a report by Computing Which? magazine. The site, aimed mainly at teenagers, was praised for its attention to security for users.
Bebo beat rival Facebook into second place in the study, which looked at the ten most popular social networking forums. Bebo had the highest overall score of 79% compared to Facebook’s 74%. The assessment judged websites on the ease of setting up an account and user interface, the range of features and the way sites protected privacy and security.
Bebo was also praised for encouraging “responsible networking” by making it simple for users to restrict who can see their personal details and block unwanted visitors.
Saga Zone, aimed at the over-50s, and BBC Talk were awarded maximum ratings for performance and photo-sharing site Flickr was deemed to be the best special interest website.
Meanwhile, Yahoo! Groups was described as “less sophisticated” than its rivals and received the lowest score from the magazine.
