Sony and Skype offer free PSP calls
Sony Computer Entertainment and internet telephony company Skype have signed a deal to allow Playstation Portable (PSP) users to make free Skype calls. A software update will be available to users later this month.
The deal will also allow users of the Sony portable device to make calls to fixed-line and mobile numbers through buying Skype credits.
Sony is keen to broaden the appeal of the PSP device beyond gamers. In August, Sony launched PSP video content downloads in the UK and Ireland, following a deal with BSkyB. In the same month, Sony unveiled a deal with BT to enable PSP users to make video and voice calls, as well as send instant messages. The Go! Messenger service is due to launch this month.
